Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is an elliptical galaxy located 100 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo at a declination of +2 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11 galaxy which spans 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way like diameter of 120,000 light years.

This galaxy has been studied using deep X-ray observations and found to have interesting outburst shock front structures and cavities within the elliptical halo near the core.  I was hoping to see traces of these in my image.  Unfortunately, I have not been able to capture them.  The galaxy does have an interesting concentration of stars visible as a brighter area to the right of the core.   But overall, this is one of the few Astrobin debut objects I have imaged that should remain a debut object.

The background galaxies surrounding NGC 5813 are interesting and softened my disappointment with the feature object.
